The White House has claimed that all ISIS-held territory in Syria has been ‘100%’ eliminated, Daily Mail reports.

The newspaper reports that the White House press secretary, Sarah Sanders, said that the United States president, Donald Trump, was briefed about the development by acting defence secretary Patrick Shanahan.

Sanders reportedly showed reporters a map of Iraq and Syria that showed that ISIS no longer controlled any territory in the region.

Legit.ng gathered that that the ISIS fanatics were hiding in caves in their final holdout in Syria when the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), supported by coalition airstrikes, engaged them in Baghouz overnight.

The terrorists were reportedly hiding in trenches as war planes carried out two raids against them on Thursday night, March 21.

“Our forces are trying to force them to surrender, but so far the clashes are continuing,” the SDF’s Mustafa Bali was quoted to have said.

The SDF had earlier reportedly said they would declare the group defeated once a search for hidden mines and jihadist holdouts was complete.

Thus, the reported final defeat of the terrorist group at Baghouz means ISIS is no longer in control of any territory, ending the territorial rule that once spanned a third of Iraq and Syria.

Also, in the later hours of Friday, President Trump also corroborated the reported defeat of ISIS in a series of tweets in his official and verified Twitter handle, @realDonaldTrump.
